    Have you sign the lease?

If not do agree to the post date lease, make them date it correctly back to August.

Alease is a contract if you don't agree with the date, don't sign it. A lease can be dated to whatever the parties agree to, even back dated to August when you moved in.

Well thank you for telling me that! Ya know sometimes landlords try to be sneaky LOL. I have not signed it. Answer this though they received payments for Aug (pro rated from the 12th on) and for September. Where does that leave the person.

Since you have cancelled checks you can prove when you started the lease.

No, the cancelled checks prove when you moved in, and that you paid those months. You could have been on a month-to-month until October, when a long-term lease began.

When did you sign the lease? When did they give it to you? It's now December, you're asking about a lease dated 1 October, and there's an issue about back-dating, so I'm a bit confused on the actual timeline of events.
