    Baby and Flat head
    I am not sure where to ask this question. It is always said to have the baby sleeping on his or her back. Well the baby prefers one side and tends to look to one side. We have tried different things to try to correct this and I know he is only 3 months but it is better to do something now. They say there is lots you can do to prevent this from happening but it happened and now we are trying to correct it without any prevail. Anybody with suggestions or comments. The head is not flat on the back of the head but on the one side. Thank you in advance.

    Joe, no need to worry, this will correct itself as your son grows. If the doc isn't concerned then there is no need to worry. It all has to do with the fontanel (soft spot) is not yet fused. As the head growns and fuses it will correct itself.

    Just check with the doc at your next appointment if you remain concerned.

    Totally agree with J_9 it corrects its self as they start moving about in there sleep as they get older don't go worrying about it after all the soft spot can take up to two years to close over Millies dr at the hospital reminds us of this every time we see him.

    Thank you J9, originally I was going to post it privately but I figured may as well see what others think as well. We have this lady visit us, they call it a family visiter and they come every couple of weeks or once a month. Check the progress on the baby and the develpement and if we have any concerns usually they give us advice. We have not shown the doctor yet. Previous visits never noticed. We are going for his second set of shots on Jan 29 and bring it up with the doctor then. The lady does not think it's a emergency situation.

    As well as my wife is breast feeding. Some people recommended vitamin d right away. Others did not. Even doctors were not concerned about it. The nurse that started visiting us was anxious to treat him for thrush and other things. Myself I was concerned that this nurse was over zealous. Sure enough we take him to the doctor, no concerns about thrush. She was also pushing the vitamin d right away. This other visiter said start it at 3 months. Well I visited the pharmacy today and he has been really good and better with advice then the nurse ( Believe it or not ).

    So I started giving him vitamin d drops today. Janine, what exactly is the reason for vitamin d. Is it that important. Especially thinking back to the old days where breast feeding was so natural and everything that is important is in it. Now doctors, nurses and pharmacies are trying to push the vitamin d right away.

    I decided not to jump the gun, but decided now is a good time to start, just to be on the safe side.

    Thank you again for all of your advice. I do appreciate it and I will send those pictures to you soon.

    curlybenswife,

    Thank you so much for your response. I really do appreciate it. I may be a over worrier but you here of flat heads and you notice that your child's head is deformed. I think it might have stressed out my wife. She got all frustrated, she is like lets just get that helmet. I guess, we are both jumping the gun. I am trying to get him to lie on his side so we can even things out but he hates it and crys. So I guess we should just see what the doctor says. I appreciate everybodies response. So do not worry so much and it should correct itself. Thank God for you. (;

    Parenthood. Wow.

    Yes, Wifey is right, it will correct itself when he starts turning and whatnot, moving around more on his own.

    Vitamin D is for strong healthy bones and teeth. You can get adequate amounts from Whole Milk, cheese and the like. But he is too young for all of that yet.

    Yes, the pharmacists are VERY helpful. I have the utmost respect for them. Some even know more than some doctors!!

    Oh, no offense taken Joe. Some nurses are WAY too overzealous and think they are doctors.

    I have a favorite pharmacist I chose to talk to before I go to a doctor if the truth be known.
