Honda Civic 1.6ESi problem, any help appreciated
Hi everyone,I have the next problem:

When I start up my car,the injection pumps the gas onto 8 atmospheres, and then the "engine check" light goes off. I start driving the car,and on 3,500 or 4 000 RPM the engine cuts off,the car starts to shake, the "check engine" light appears, and there is some strange sound inside the car, like some electronic thing... like "cek cek cek",you know, this sound is similar to the 1 when you put the side lights,I changed the engine to a new 1,cause the 1 I had I fu**** up,also installed the K&N Conic Filter, could the problem be in "changing the original filtr to this one"?? what else could it be ?the car is from 1995,and it's european... (I'm from Portugal).. any advises ?any help will be apreciated guys... thanks.Sasha

Check to see if your ECM is throwing any codes. If you read the material below, it should help you troubleshoot your problem:

Try hooking up your original air filter and see if it helps. If the sound you are describing is "click," "click," "click," then it could be coming from your main relay. It will be very important to check for any diagnostic trouble codes.

OK,my problem still persists,I'm going to try to be more expressive... so,it's like this: when I switch the ignition on,sometimes I hear first the sound of gasoline pump and then that "strange clicks" and other times I hear this "clicks" first and then the fuel pump, and this "engine check" light,is always on,some times it is more brightness, sometimes less brightness, when I try to start the car the "clicks" go faster and faster, like in the beginning when I'm about to start (II),it goes lick "click"... "click"... "click".. and when I start it,it goes like crazy, like "cik cik cik cik cik cik cik cik cik",with out any pauses... I don't know if that sound is the Relay problem,by the way,I found some black box on driver's side near the clutch pedal,it's small... I already checked all the fuses, outside and inside, had put the original filter, and all that stuff, but the car won't even start now... it seems that it doesn't get fuel into engine, but as someone said here when there is some of engine problems, the fuel pump will not work properly for security reasons or something... So,on my 1995 there is no OBD II jack, cause it's only came on in 1996 as an International Standartization.well,I don't know, what should I do ?check the main relay ?ignition unit ?spark plugs can't be,cause I changed them 1 week ago, when I installed the new engine(ohh by the way, with old engine everything worked perfectly)... someone help me please

Follow the tests in Sections A and B below and it should help you quickly identify what your problem is:

It sounds like your ECM (computer) is bad and causing the Main Relay to go crazy. If it's not the ECM (run the K-Test) that needs replacing, then it's the Main Relay.

Hello to everyone,OK,I still didn't resolve my problem, today I went to the place where the accident cars stay, and took 1 relay from there,I think it's not original one because the sticker is different, and it sais there "made in england",so the original one was substituted by this 1.OK,I came to the car,the battery of course died already from trying to start the car,so:i went with my other car and put the "jumper cables" (I think that's how you call it in english),the cables that connect 1 battery with other, and I tried to start my honda. Well, the result was: The car didn't start either with a new relay, and I've noticed that the fuel pump don't work now at all,I picked up the back sit from the car, took all the scrools from there, and took the fuel pump out, connected it to my other car's battery and it worked.so,now I'm home for family reasons, and in 2 hours I'm going to have my 2nd car again to try.1 question: I didn't take the battery's ground wire after I installed the new relay,I installed it and without disconnecting the battery and tried to start the car straight way,so,now the battery died, and I took it out.DID I NEED TO DISCONNECT AND CONNECT AGAIN THE BATTERY FOR THE "ECU" RESET? COULD THE FUEL PUMP NOT WORKING BECAUSE I Didn't RESET THE ECU WHEN I INSTALLED THE NEW RELAY?? thanks for reading this and answer if possible... thanx a lot

You should always disconnect the negative battery cable, before working on the electrical system. However, not resetting the ECU did not affect the fuel pump working or not. I believe the fuel pump is not working because the relay you installed was probably not the right one for your particular Civic. They need to be matched; therefore, I recommend you buy a new one. Before buying a new main relay, however, perform the K-Test and make sure your ECU is good. If not, you may be wasting your time and money replacing the main relay. Follow the steps in the link I sent you and you WILL figure out what's wrong. Good luck.

Hey,I have news: The main relay is working good now,I just forgot to tight up the relay with cables, there is 2 cables gethered when you tight up the relay... so,the problem is not relay.Once I connected those wires with relay, the fuel pump started straight way.BUT,I started the car and it worked for like 4-5 seconds and went off.I was inside the car when it started and when it started those strange "clicks" came again and didn't let the engine work anymore. It was like "dr dr dr dr and then cik cik cik cik cik cik cik cik",and then the car went off,I tried it couple of times more and it didn't start,so the problem is NOT RELAY,and it's NOT FUEL PUMP.What else could it be ?ahhh, also when I took that scrool on the pressure black deposit the fuel didn't come ot like there were big pressure,it just ranned down, without jetting, just like sliding down.what can it be ?ignition unit ?distributor cap ?
