How stupid can you get?
Apparently Bob Geldoff, who is an expert in economic matters and employment, wants to offer advice to Australia on how to solve the skills shortage
Australia 'economically stupid', says Geldoff
We really think the advice of an itinerant englishman might be useful in this context since they have had such a good experience of importing labour from other places, but before you call us stupid it might be worthwhile to examine the UK history of success in managing indigenous employment and immigration, and of course, training indigenous populations.
Just how did the english deal with indigenous populations in Australia. First they exported large numbers of Irish to these shores under conditions of "slavery" to settle the lands
They employed the indigenies as targets, holding hunts with instructions to bring back heads. This of course, trained these populations to run fast and hide. Later they trained them as stockmen and herders offering tobacco and flour as wages. Women and children were taken and used as kitchen hands and servants, etc, etc. So what we have the english to thank for is an indigenous population that expects low wages, meniel work and brutality. Is it any reason we haven't been successful in training them and have to import skilled labour. As I have said before we have enough labourers, camel drivers and fishermen.
What I suggest Mr. Geldoff do for our indigenous populations is hold a relief concert and give us some relief by leaving, since we also have enough people who can tell us what the problem is but not one is able to tell us how to get the indigenous population to be interested in the white man's dream.

"The Irish humanitarian rocker addressed a business breakfast..."
You've identified the problem, having an "Irish humanitarian rocker" address your business community. It's kind of like us having a community organizer leading our economy... stupid.

You don't get it Tom and neither does Geldoff the Afghans and the Iraqi and the Indians who catch boats here won't do it either, the idea is now we should import south sea islanders on short term visa's to do it. There is no noble savage out there in the never never looking for a job, just a world full of bludgers and petrol sniffers, when they are not doing that they fill our jails or fight each other in the streets

Yeah, we were much better off with a guy who failed at running a baseball club... stupid. Actually, we're STILL paying for his crap.

Hey I don't invite Irish potheads to address business breakfasts, no doubt he was fundraising for some obscure cause and wanted to give us the benefit of his vast experience just as your community organiser is giving you the benefit of his. If we want some Musician leading the abo cause we have Peter Garrett, the Minister for F***ups, and Yothu Yindi for that. I guess the beds will just go on burning

You forget, he was pretty darn good governor for 6 years so he at least had successfully ran something, and the state of Texas is a BIG something.

What the aborigines need are casinos, seems to be the trend here and in Canada.

We no longer have the white mans burden Tom we understood that it takes many generations for a stone age man to find his place in our society and so we avoid rushing them but there are those like Geldoff who think that the only problem is lack of training and opportunity when in fact it is mentality. If the 19th century brit had taken the time to bring them in rather than exploit and kill we might be a little further advanced. We lacked the interbreeding programmes so well executed in intergrating your society, but the 19th century brit thought he could breed them out by removing the children and educating them. We possess very few examples that this idea worked. You also forget we are dealing with a true minority population here perhaps equivalent to your amerindians and scattered over a continent

See here we go again suggesting that they understand and need gambling. Their only interest at the moment is land, what they call their sacred sites, a few rocks or cave paintings, which they want to lock up for their use only. I can't imagine a casino being set up on a sacred site with all those white men trampling over it.
There is a thinking in the world that these people had some sort of organised society where they had a sense of nation in the manner perhaps that the american native had, and lived together in large groups. This is a ridiculous notion. There were at least 200 tribal groups, basically extended families of a few hundred individuals and little evidence of cooperation between them
In order to run a sophisticated business of any kind you need several things and one of them is inclination to succeed in a white man's world. There is little evidence of that. They have free places available in universities and technical colleges but we don't see large numbers taking the opportunity because education has failed them at a much more basic level

Sarcasm font was developed with Altenweg under J-9's supervision. It's really quite simple. I type a post as usual and then add the sarcasm font as needed when it would seem some people can't figure it out.

And here I thought you were offering a constructive comment
(Sarcasm font engaged)
I took your comment as being tongue in cheek but I had to let you know I considered it in the same vein as Geldoff, that is right off
