Miniature dachshund, breding problem
We bred her 51 days ago - her 63rd day should be 30 May
She seems thicker; she is eating more; her teats do seem a little bigger; but I am unsure how to tell for sure (other than going to vet) if she is pregnant.

Is there some reason you don't want to take her to a Vet?
How old is she?

Is this your first time breeding? Do you have a breeding mentor?
Why wouldn't you take her to the vet?

You need to get her to the vet for an ultra sound or x-ray.
It is very important to know exactly how many pups she is having so that you know when she has finished whelping.
If she is only a week away from whelping an you can't see or feel any movement then odds are she is either not having many pups or not having any at all.
I will also echo the question as to why a vet hasn't already been involved with the pregnancy?

I myself just got out of hospital (late yesterday) is the only reason I have not taken her to vet. I cannot drive yet - will try to get someone to drive me to vet tomorrow. I have been told that since mini doxis have small puppies it is not uncommon for her not to be very big. She is sleeping more and not as thin but just does not look very pregnant. Hopefully I can get her there tomorrow.

This is my first and LAST time breeding her. I was hoping it would calm her down. She is hyper like me.

I was told that the fact that she and the male tied up for 28 minutes and the fact that the male has been proven, it would be unlikely that the she was not pregnant. But since I am new at this I certainly do not know. And she is not going to be still long enough for me to try to feel for movement of puppies. HYPER should be her name.

Yes, please come back and let us know :)
I remember the last time my mum had a litter of Miniature Poodles, she was having 5 pups and when she laid on her side on the floor you could see the pups moving around inside her, you could even see distinct little feet poking at her belly.
If you need any advice on the whelping process or puppy care just let us know.

Sometimes dogs don't show their pregnancy, especially first litters.
Had a female come through rescue who was suppose to be spayed. One day she looked very chubby, her belly got very pot-bellied like. We thought she might be pregnant, ultra sound proved us right... Couple weeks later 12 puppies were born. Some dogs just hold their pups high in them.
She may not be pregnant with a lot of puppies either. First litters are not known to be big.
Good luck :)

Since I could not get a ride to vet and I still cannot drive, I ask the lady who has her parents and breds doxies to come over. She did. And blew me away - she could not believe I did not think she was pregnant - she is. She is a thin dog naturally and is having really tiny pups and her experience is that she would not be blowed up like a pot bellied pig.

I can't see the picture :(
Click on go advanced just below the reply box, and then click on the little paper clip icon up top and find the photo on your computer ;)
It's all very exciting, but very scary!
I'm a fan of the whelping boxes like the one below...
You have a flap that you can open for the b*tch to step in and out easily as well as a pig rail so that if the b*tch lays on any pups they get pushed under the railing instead of being squished ;)

OMG, good luck:eek: I lost a pup because of ignorance. Please keep posting and let us know how it goes. You need to get your Vet involved ASAP in case you need help. Then get her fixed. That could have solved part of the Hyper problem.:)
