How many versions of this show tune?
I was just wondering how many different verses there are to the song "Doin What Comes Naturally" from "Annie Get Your Gun". Does anyone know?

    Hi, alliesuecat!

In the title to your question, you've stated "versions". However, in your question, you've stated "verses".

So, which one is it, please?

    Thanks!

    Hi again, alliesuecat!

It's really hard to say or find out how many versions there might be. There would certainly be pit orchestra arrangements. Also, there could be orchestra and concert band arrangements as well as many, many piano arrangements of that song. It might even be available in a number of different keys.

Here's a "for instance" for you - I've played for many vocal soloists over the decades. If I have a show tune where I need to play the piano accompaniment for someone, I'll typically make up my own version, based somewhat on the music, every time that I play it. So, it would be that each time I play it, that would be another version of the song.

Also sometimes, directors of musical theater productions might leave out certain verses of the songs in a show, depending on the length of the show, choreography, and other things that are up to the director so as to make the show as they think that it should be.

    Thanks!
