Ok guys, this might be a stupid question, and my situation is probably not that rare, but I am going to ask for the heck of it anyway. Basically, I asked a girl at my school to prom as a friend. I am not sure if I like her more than that(well maybe a little, but not like an all out crush), but anyway, she said yes, and seemed pretty happy about it. Normally the guy is supposed to buy the girl's prom ticket, so I kind of assumed that I would pay for all of it. Because we don't have any classes together, I just went to get the tickets by myself. Apparently, this girl already bought her own ticket but didn't tell me. I am kind of confused. Should I reimburse her or do anything about this? I just feel like anything I do might be kind of awkward. Anyway, this is a dumb question, and I am bored- that is why I am on this forum. What do you guys think?

If she already bought a ticket, then I wouldn't worry about it. Paying her back doesn't really make sense, and will probably make her feel a bit awkward.

Are you going out for dinner before prom? Is there an after-prom you plan on attending with an admittance fee? If either one is planned, then talk to her about how you plan on splitting costs. Since you are only going as friends (no matter what happens in the future), then you shouldn't have to pay for everything, and she likely doesn't expect you to. You'll need to work that out before prom, to avoid embarrassment and confusion.

Would not pay her back, since she bought hers, it also appears she sees you more as a friend than a boyfriend. If you hope it may become more, great, sometimes it does over time

I agree with the above posts. Don't offer to reimburse, and I would totally go dutch, just mention it beforehand. If you are going to get her something, make sure to ask what color her dress is and get a corsage to match. :)

If she goes to your school, then it makes sense for her to pay for her own ticket. It would make more sense for you to pay if she went to a different school.

Furthermore, if she already paid for her own ticket, then I suggest you leave it be. Reimburse the second ticket that you have. No need to force your ticket upon her.

Finally, make sure you're on the same page. If you've agreed to go just as a friends, then do that. Sounds like you're thinking that this could be something more?

Thanks for your answers :) I am not sure exactly how I feel... probably a little confused too :). But I am kind of making a big deal out of nothing at all.
