    Our basement toilet flushes fine but there is a long pause before it starts filling
    Our basement toilet flushes fine but there is a long pause (4-5 minutes) before it starts filling back up. It fills up quickly at that time. What would cause it to wait so longer before filling?

    What type of ballcock do you have?(see image)
    Pump or city water? How's the house water pressure? Strong or weak?

    Remove tank cover. Watch the float after u flush. It should drop with water level. If it does not, clean shaft float is mounted on and try again. The adj link should be in a straight perpendicular line. This will slow float from falling.

    Be sure the refill tube is clear of water level adj rod.

    If flow master is damaged, replace. Cost about $10.

    Replace Flow Master. Shut off water at angle valve. Flush toilet and remove remaining water in tank with a sponge. Remove water feed tube from Flow master under tank. Remove Flow master by removing nut that holds it in.

    Install new Flow master as per instructions on box. Good to go.

    Another possibility is that the valve has junk in it.

    I believe you can shut off the toilet supply, remove the cap on top of the fill valve and open the valve briefly to blow out the junk and put the cap back on.

    Turn water off.

    Reach down under float and lift float and grasp shaft. While holding float up, turn cap 1/8 turn and lift off. Remove rubber seal. While you have the cap off, hold your hand over the valve and turn water on briefly to flush out any possible debris. Replace rubber seal and cap.

    . OR

    Disconnect refill tube from overflow. Reach down shaft and pull up gray locking ring around shaft. Pull up on valve assembly and remove. Slide new valve on thread portion of shaft. Set top of valve even with tank top. Slide locking ring down to lock shaft in place. Connect refill tube to overflow.
