    Problems with first postpartum period
I delivered #2 7 weeks ago by means of a VBAC. Everything went fine until the end and they thought I had a ruptured uterus. I ended up being able to deliver vaginally even though they had prepped me for an emergency c-section. My question now is that I started my first real period since giving birth and have been bleeding for 7 days. The first couple of days were heavy but nothing unusual. On days 3-5 I was soaking a pad ever 1 1/2 to 3 hours. It has finally slowed down in the last couple of days, but those few days I felt like I was losing too much blood and many times I felt dizzy and lightheaded, sort of like I was going to pass out. Luckily I haven't been feeling like that the last couple of days, although I have been really sick to my stomach. My OB wants me to go in Monday for an ultrasound to see if maybe some of the placenta got left in there. Is this pretty common or no? Or could it be something worse? I am really worried that it may be more, but I don't know if it really is, or if I'm just overreacting. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Retention of segments of the placenta is one of the more common reasons for prolonged or heavy bleeding after giving birth so it is usually one of the first things to check. Since it has let up, it could also just be an unusually heavy period.
What were the results of your ultrasound?

Well the ultrasound came back clean but some of the bloodwork was questionable. So I have to go back in a couple of weeks to get that done

I agree with Doula. What you are experiencing is one of the major reasons that few doctors do VBACs any more.

The blood work was "questionable" how?

Some of the results... don't remember which ones off the top of my head... came back a little out of range. We are redoing bloodwork in about a month to follow up.

I gave birth a little over 5 weeks ago and haven't got a period yet. I am not breastfeeding, tried it and didn't work out. Don't even think I breast fed for a week. 4 weeks after giving birth I had unprotected sex. A day or two after I had light brown discharge and light pink spotting and then...
