My puppy spayed yesterday
Hi my boston terrier Lulu was spayed yesterday and is running and playing like normal, I am worried she may reopen her incision. Can I wrap her with an Ace bandage to give her some support? Thank you for your help

Hey there,
She is young and they heal fast. I wouldn't worry too much but monitor her. Do not put bandage unless the vet recommends it. It will heal well in good time. Don't worry too much.

Call your vet, there is no charge for a phone call. She just had major surgery. I don't think she should be running around, but if your vet says OK, then you should be good.
I had to watch my pups, both male and female for many signs (the vet gave me a list) and mine were NOT allowed to run around like normal.
Please call:)

The incision shouldn't open unless she is excessive with her playing.
You worry most about licking. Try to keep her as quiet as you can and check the incision twice a day.

I have a slightly different opinion...
I agree, no bandages, but she should be confined to a crate for a few days if she is running around and playing a lot.
She may not like it but it's better than having a dog with busted stitches.
I was lucky, my girl flat out didn't want to walk for a few days at all, she just curled in her bed.
She shouldn't be jumping at all, no exceptions. Jumping = stitches stretching = skin tearing.
You need to keep the incision dry, so no licking like Sariss said, if she is licking it then you need to get an e-collar.
When a dog licks their stitches it can not only irritate them but it also keeps the area moist, when the skin is moist you run the risk of the stitches tearing through the skin.
Several times a day just clean the incision with a dry, clean cloth. There will be a little bit of weeping the first few days but the liquid should be clear or pale pink. If it is yellow, green or thick then it's time to go back to the vet.

Unless there's some new method out there, all surgery incisions (generally) are sutured closed.
A new technique is where the sutures are under the skin and thus not visible. The ends are glued to bury the knot.
I prefer that method, as they seem to be more stable and are less apt to catch on things..

When Prada was spayed she wasn't glued at all, just 4 little stitches
