    Carpet Height
What is the normal finished floor height after carpet installation with a 1/2" pad? Is it 3/4"?

I have to rebuild stair stringers. The stairs will have wooden treads, but the floor at the bottom will be carpet. I need to know the height in advance because of the strictness of the code.

    Thank you!

It all depends on the carpet thickness and type.

I would think that the code is not effected by the carpet. Carpet is not a permanent part of floor.

Stairs are built from finished floor to finished floor. If carpet installation made carpet not meet code, would not be able to install after house or stairs were built. This would also effect tiling floor.

Check with building dept to see if carpet will effect code.

    Good luck

Carpet thickness is not taken into account by the Codes when building stairs.

And if your code inspector is making an issue of carpet thickness, he needs to get a life and another line of work... :)
