    Old gives way to young
The old maple tree out front, after many years of shading my home from the passing sun, is ready for the fire place. Last year a sapling from this tree started growing and knowing the old trees fate, I left it to grow. The young one now is over 6 feet and appears healthy. Problem is it's too close to the home. Can I transplant this to a better spot? How and when is that best for its chances?

Sorry, no one answered, but if you can't find anything... I would dig as big a hole around it as I could so not to disturb any roots and make sure you plant it in the same fashion I really don't know the best time for you, I most likely live in a different area.

I'm sorry about your loss:( but good luck with the baby:)

Usually replanted trees dug up in the spring and then replanted and watered a lot during the first summer in it's new location will do just fine. I'd replant it as soon as you know it's survived the winter and has some leaves on it.

Now would be a great time to do this. Any trees that I plant from either pots or bags I do at the middle of spring and I get the best results.

Water more frequently during the entire summer so the roots really take hold and your new maple will be just fine next year and much much taller.
