I'm at work too. I just found out I will be getting laid off on June 30th! I have mixed feelings about that.

Oh no :( I hope you manage to find a way to fix things! Here if you get laid of you get unemployment benefits: they give you monthly cheques, even [free] job training, even like apprenticeship programs... [not sure if that's how it works on your end of the interwebs].
Good luck to you, I hope everything works out.

I am sorry to hear that, Bella.
Will they give you time off to go on job interviews?
On the plus side, you might find a place that treats you like a person and not an office machine. :)

I agree Cat. No they won't give me any time off and there was a really nasty e mail sent out, about how they better not find us on the job bank! I am not overly broken up about it, I really am starting to hate this job. I am overly stressed, and it's not my work load, it's the hostile work environment I work in.
Muddy, I live in Canada too... so... I am going back to school. I got accepted to the Agricultural Collage out here, and I am going to be taking Animal Science, biology, and physics starting in September. So that means I get to go on E.I until then! Woo Hoo! :D
Plus that means I get to spend the summer with my one and only, my daughter! Oh you and Lady too.
So would that make it my one and my one other and onlys?

I got laid off my job after 11 years in the same job. I was out of work for a year Feb/09.
EI is not what its cracked up to be. They screwed me around and back and up my a@@ HOLE a few times and it was not even my fault or mistake and they are trying to get blood out of a stone with me.
I am almost finished with my claim but they are trying to tell me I owe them money for something that was severely their mistake and I was not hiding a thing from them.
Been through appeals and all sorts of stuff but its been helping now that I work part time... Anyway, it did not matter that I did not have a pot to piss in or that my family could have possibly ended out in the streets.
Although what I did was 6 months ago packed up everything we could in our car and left everything else behind and moved half way cross the country. To start all over again. Things though since the move have all been falling in place.
So I guess everything happens for a reason, eh.
Working in medical field now, and getting schooling soon through my work and better doctors , etc. Here.
Enjoy your summer with your daughter, that is precious time and I really did try to do the same with my son. When I was not working.

That sucks Aurora :(
But like JH said, everything happens for a reason!
I got laid off well over a year ago now and it has pushed me to go back to school and get a career instead of staying in the same 'ol dead-end retail jobs.

The best thing I ever did was hiring on with Canadian Red Cross. They pay for all of my continuing education, whatever I want, as long as it expands my scope of practice. I enjoy working with seniors, helping them cope in their daily lives, taking care of their medical needs. After this job, and I plan on doing this well past 70, I will hang up my scrubs !
Bella, think of it this way, once one door closes, another one opens and you have to jump at the chance and never look back. You will do well, I know that, in anything you choose !

That is true. For years since very young I wanted to work in the medical field. I kept getting into jobs though that did not reflect my personal calling.
I was in automotive work for 11 years and you know what by the end of it all was so stressed and working with people who was always angry and nasty people. It drained my soul and spirit and lucky I did not kill myself. EDIT: I do not mean literally, what I meant is working in a job so long with so much negativity and nothing I did was good enough , etc... lucky I did not run myself to the ground. Guess I could have worded it better.
That door closed and it was such a relief. Why did I wait so long to make changes. I guess sometimes people need to be forced to leave and to explore other possible doors to open.
Now I am wearing scrubs too, and a lot of the time when I am working it honestly does not feel like a job because I am enjoying what I am doing as well. Helping people, older people take care of them as well as the young as well that can not.
So it all works out for the best.

Jh, wow that was quite the journey. I really do believe that everything happens for a reason. Sometimes the reason is so clear, and other times it's foggy. I really am having mixed emotions, wondering if I will be able to afford to live while on E.I.
I know I can't continue doing what I am doing. I am absolutely miserable here, and I am causing so much un needed stress in my life. I need this change.
Shaz, I used to waitress, that's all I did, that and bartending. I got pregnant, and realized this life style isn't going to work for me. I took some extra classes and ending up landing this job I am in now. It was awesome for the first month or so. Then it all went downhill. I was surprised to find such immaturity and unprofessionalism in such a professional setting. It has taken a major toll on myself esteem, and who I thought I was. The blatant undermining and belittling my management has me in a constant state of bewilderment. I keep my head down and my mouth shut, and hope to stay out of the firing range.
Tick, I can only hope I can succeed at school. I need to find something I love. I don't want to wake up each morning and feel this constant anxiety about having to go to work. It's an everyday battle to find the motivation to get out of bed. I am happy that you found a job you love. As I type this I am looking at the other staff in the office. They look like pit bulls ready to attack. No one smiles, no one talks, the air is so thick with tension you could cut it with a knife.
Well that is my rant for the day. Thanks for listening :D

My sense of humor will not allow me to pass this up: Maybe they need to practice some Protocols for Relaxation. ;):D

I have worked with people for the last l0 ten years I don't even have to see if I don't want to. I don't bother with the other support workers. I just go about my own business. We have In service meetings once every six months, that's about it. I have my own voice mail code within the Red Cross network and that's how I pick up my client information. It works, but you really have to like ineracting with people, one on one and gaining trust, that is absolutely main.
I hear you about the office politics, the tension, etc. have been there throughout the years too.
Hugs to you and you can go home to your daughter at the end of the day, and then the day is absolutely worth it, right ?
(oh and bella, please send me the link for the borzoi/greyhound rescue people you told me about, I am waiting and anxious to see what she has.

Never read. Never plan to. I tried to read pride and prejudice around the time the movie was coming out. I've read more engaging shopping lists.
