    MOEN Château bathtub valve
I have a "Chateau" model Moen tub faucet that was replaced. What is a fair price to pay for this service and how does a person know if the cartridge needs replacing instead of just the "O" ring? I paid $231.00 and think that price is too much. Several years ago I also had to replace a kitchen faucet cartridge and a tub/shower faucet cartridge. My house is 11 years old. Shouldn't faucet cartridges last longer than that? Thanks.

Cartridge longevity depends on water quality.
As far as having the complete tub valve with new trim replaced, 231 is right in the ball park, when taking into account the price of the faucet, materials needed to replace faucet, and labor. If you hired a professional plumber to install the new faucet, I would say you were treated fairly and wouldn't argue the bill.

Did you know that Moen would have given you the cartridge free? Buy it for looks, buy it for life is their motto and warranty. That is a fair price if you hired a licensed plumber. However, this job could be done by a moderately skilled handyman. Please explain in detail regarding was the cartrdige replaced or was the entire valve swapped out. The complete valve, parts only, can run over $200
