    Flat roof
I live in the southwest. I have a flat roof. We are adding a room to the house and doing some updating so we thought it would be a good time to re-roof. We had some small but persistent leaks in the existing part of the house. The contractor had the roof done. We had some weather the day they "finished." All kinds of water in the house. He said they were not done, done yet. It is two weeks later, they are done, done. It rained last night and there is water in the house. And in some new places. He said that his guy (who has 30 years experience) says that this is just how it is with flat roofs. You do it, find a leak, fix it. Until there are no more leaks. This doesn't add up for me. Because now there is new drywall getting damaged. And what if it hadn't rained before the new floor and walls were done? Does anyone have direct experience with flat roofs in the southwest?
    Thanks.

Sounds like BS to me. A roof is not suppose to leak, period.

What is the material used for this roof? It doesn't sound like, torch down,or single ply(EPDM), is it some kind of 90# rolled roofing?(way out of style these days.)

No way does a new roof leak, maybe an error, rare for a veteran, but not impossible, but with what he said, he can't be serious, no pro I have ever worked with would say that, ever.

Look close at your contract, then call a different roofer and have them asses the job, you might have to pay them for a look, but at least you'll have piece of mind.
