    Remote won't control fan
I have a Hampton Bay fan which operates on remote only. The up and down lights work correctly with the remote, but the fan will not turn off or change speeds with the remote.

Has it always been this way or did it recently stop working? Does the indicator light up when you try to operate the fan buttons?

This is a new installation. The wires coming from the ceiling are white, red, black and a ground. I wired the remote white to the ceiling white, the remote black to the ceiling red and black, and the ground to the remote green. On the other side of the remote, I wired all the colors to each other. Could one of the remote wires connected to the fan have come loose? The remote control lights up when you push the fan off and fan speed control buttons.

Possibly. For starters, you want to connect the remote black to ONLY the red OR the black, but this shouldn't make a difference in the fan working. On the other side each color should match up.

Does the fan have pullchains and/or a reverse switch?
