Stumped
We had some renovations done on our family home four years ago. A couple of years ago we started having a problem in where the sink water from the kitchen upstairs along with the dishwasher was flooding the bathroom sink downstairs. We had called the contractor who said he would come to look at it and call his plumber. Unfortunately that never happened and we have now lost contact with him. We called a plumbing company who brought a snake and he did some work and then the water from the kitchen sink upstairs is no longer coming up the downstairs bathroom. But now it's happening again and it's now to the point where the water will no longer go down in the downstairs bathroom. The smell is disgusting as it's the kitchen water with food liquids coming up in the bathroom downstairs rendering it useless. I don't know what to do and I would like some ideas or opinions before I let the water dry in the pipes and seal the bathroom sink pipe for good. Thank you very much as a response is appreciated, here is some info from the looks of it the downstairs bathroom pipe is going downward then upward through a wall straight then it makes a turn on a slight slop and seems to be connected to the upstairs kitchen sink which has a long free fall. This could explain why the kitchen sink isn't backing up and why the water from kitchen sink is coming upstairs. But another opinion would be appreciated, thank you.

No, water used in the upstairs sink is coming up in the downstairs bathroom. So what goes down the kitchen sink upstairs comes up in the sink downstairs.

Its possible that some large debre may have ended up in the sewerline when you renovated your house, if you keep having this problem I would recommend having a plumbing co. come out again and snake out the sewerlines and run a camara down the drain to check and make sure there isn't any abstruction in the line. Good luck ---zeke---

Are you on a public sewer or a septic system?
If on a septic system, when was the last time you had it pumped?
A full solids tank can cause the symptoms you describe.
