Arrival of late period or implantation bleeding?
Hi everyone, I'm looking for some questions answered. I have been doing a lot of research on other sites and haven't really been able to find anything about this.

I was supposed to get my period on 4/7 and ended up getting what I thought was it on 4/10. However, it was VERY light, much lighter than I've had in the past. It was normal in color, but not in terms of volume. It lasted 3 days without ever getting heavy. Yesterday (4/12) I took a urine pregnancy test at the doctor, and it came back negative. I don't know if it's negative because I'm not pregnant or if it was just too soon to tell. My situation is a little weird because I haven't actually had intercourse, but have fooled around externally and am worried that somehow the sperm may have made its way in. I have never had a period this light before, but everything I've read about implantation bleeding says it normally happens before your expected period and that it should be brown or light pink. My question is if anyone else has experienced this and if so if it has resulted in pregnancy. If you could let me know, I would really appreciate it because I am freaking out even with the negative pregnancy test. Thanks in advance.

Once you have had a period (or a few days late) a urine test will give you an accurate result. At that point, it would be very rare to get a false negative result.

Though your period came a few days late, and was light, but still "correct in color" is another sign that you are not pregnant. Sometimes we just get lighter periods--there should be no reason to worry there.

Never having intercourse also diminishes your odds of being pregnant. While it is possible to get pregnant without acutal intercourse, its rare, especially as you described it.

Implantation bleeding --if it occurs at all-- is very light and within 7-10 days after you ovulate--so 4 days or more before your period is due to arrive. Implantation bleeding would not last several days and should be light enough to NOT require a pad or tampon at all.

All in all, don't worry too much. If you notice a change in symptoms or are late for your next period --test again.
