    Acid reflux for 4 years
Hi I am 25 years old and have had GERD for about 4 years now :( It first started when I was diagnosed with a heart condition and was prescribed Norpace. I took it for 6 months and lost my appetite completely. That is when the burning and stomach bloating began. I had an endoscopey done and show no damage or ulcers also ct scans of the stomach. Ive taken 5 different medications for the heartburn but none work well enough. Sometimes an acidic meal will bloat my stomach from the upper rib cage all the way down under the navel. This swelling will last for about a week at a time. Its extremely uncomfortable. Ive measured almost 4 inches of swelling in each area (hips, waist, upper waist) I been off and on to many doctors and its always pills and diets that don't cure it. What can I do?

I'm curious to know what meds you are taking for it, too. I was stricken with a case of heart burn a year and a half ago- it felt like something was lodged in my esophagus. My doctor tried several meds on me, but the only one that worked was aciphex. I lost twelve pounds during the whole mess and I haven't yet gained it all back! For some reason, after about six months on the medications, my symptoms ceased. Has your doctor tried every medication out there? Sometimes you really have to go through a lot of them to find the right one. I hope you feel better soon...

I know what you mean I have bile reflux too and gastritis. My meds don't work and I'm on Lansoprazole, metoclopramide and sucralfate. I see the gastro next week,an op may be the only answer. It may be for you as well.

If I have taken medication, how long should I wait before lying down? I ask this in order to avoid damaging my esophageal sphincter. I guess that the same question also applies to after eating food.
