Hello everyone.
I have always had NO problems with my video card. I have NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS. It works great, my computer is always fast with videos, games and anything else.

For a while now I've been getting a rattle sound from the video card. It SOUNDS like a fan hitting a cord. But its not. I've blown the tower out, got rid of dust. Its still makiung the sound. I'm ashamed to admit that the only way to get it to stop, is to bang the tower *blush* I know that's not good to do, but it drives me nuts.

Now today, I turn my computer on, of course to that lovely sound. And now my computer is just absolutely losing its mind. YouTube videos that usually load right away and play with no problems, almost don't play at all, my active desktop keeps needing refreshed, and I get horrible lag whenever the vid card is needed. And now, not even banging the tower will stop the rattle.

The ONLY thing different I can think of is last night I was playing world of warcraft for the first time in a LONG time, and it locked up and shut down.

Any thoughts?

Sounds like you'll be shopping for a new video card very, very soon. Cards don't last forever and yours just got old and feeble.

OK so I fixed it. Took it apart and blew it out and MAN the card alone was so dusty!! Got it all nice and cleaned, blew out the tower and no more noise :)

WOW! It's amazing what a little bit of dirt can do to computer components! I had a funny noise coming from my tower about an hour after I answered your question! I turned off the computer and let it rest (something that it doesn't get much of) and about 4 hours later turned it back on. The noise came back about 8 hours later and then kept coming and going and finally left. I have a 2002 Gateway tower since it was new. The only thing I replaced was the original power supply last Sept as the other one got too coated with dirt from Sonny's smoking cigarettes. I now have an air filter with cleanable HEPA type filter and now the dirt build up is not that bad. It's a good idea to blow out the dirt on a regular basis. I use my Kirby vacuum cleaner and suck it out very carefully using the hose with a special small attachment that is used to blow up beach balls. I find sucking it out versus blowing it out is easier on my sinuses as I blew it out inside the house one time and suffered for months afterward due to all the dirt stirred up in the house. Be very careful though if you use the suck versus blow method.
