    Ceiling fan, no third wire
I bought a ceiling fan that has 4 wires. Black: hot power to fan. Blue: Hot power to light. White: Common for fan and light. Green: ground wire. From our ceiling we only have a white and black wire, but the instructions only provide options for if we had three wires. We've tried a few different things, limited by not wanting to be electricuted. but it just won't turn on.

Connect blue and black to black. White to white. Green to any metal part on the ceiling.
