    Varnish removal from cabinets
I am refinishing my kitchen cabinetry. I think the wood is ash, the cabinets are 30 years old but great construction. I'd like to re-stain them a darker color but need to remove the varnish first so that the stain can penetrate. The current stain color is a dark honey color. The doors and drawer faces have scrolled edges, so there are lots of crevices to get the varnish out of. My question is whether sanding is the best method, or is it better to use a varnish removal product?

If u sand, u will remove some of the detail. Use a varnish remover with various size scrapers and brushes. Be sure to wear gloves.
