Hi I have received some powerpoint files with extensions pps, ppt, pptx but I cannot open them. I have tried renaming them or moving them to another folder but to no avail. I have scanned them but still no...
I also have some mp4 files that I use FLV player to view. They donot open either. When I checked the Interface/media information there are no details in the 'codec details section' nor in the 'statistics section'. Otherwise when viewed in the windows explorer, the file shows its file size. Other flv files have information about codec details and statistics.
Any help or advice on these files? Could it be anything to do with the pendrive I received them on? Scan did not reveal anything.

Do you have power point installed or power point player? Also you may need to reinstall your codecs for your video. Things may have changed since they were first installed.

Hi, Thanks for your reply.
As it is other flv files play fine and other powerpoint files play fine even now. It is only with some of these files. Could they be corrupted from origin or transferred incorrectly? Aanything else I could try? Thanks.

'Powerpoint can't open type of file represented.'
Here is the message I get from the Microsoft help :
'The selected file does not appear to be a valid Microsoft Office PowerPoint file. It might be another kind of Microsoft Office System file or a file created by using a different program.
Try double-clicking the file in Windows Explorer to see if another program will open it. If PowerPoint opens again when you double-click the file in Windows Explorer, it is possible that the file is not a PowerPoint file but that its extension was renamed to be that of a registered PowerPoint file type (such as .ppt, pptx, pps, ppsx, pptx, pot, or .potx) but the file is not a PowerPoint file.
To determine which program can open the file, try any of the following:
Contact the original author (if known) to find out which program was used to create this file. Then rename the file with the correct extension so that it can be opened by that program.
Try opening the file in other programs.
If you, or someone you know, are very knowledgeable about software, examine the file header in a text editor to determine which program can read the file.
Another possibility is that the file was damaged during transfer from another computer. If the file was transmitted over a modem, try re-transmitting the file.
Lastly, the file might have become corrupted. If you have a backup copy of the file, use it. It is not currently possible to reverse file corruption.'

Do you use the Office Compatibility Pack. Sometimes newer files don't play well with older programs. Install this if you think this may be the problem. It could be corruption, and you can't fix that without expert services. I would also recommend reinstalling your codecs. There may be some flash videos/objects that don't decode the way they used to and thus the upgrade or reinstall. I prefer K-Lite Codec Pack.

If you really want to see if they're corrupted, you can run an or md5 verification sum against the original.

If you want to try a flv fix tool use this. It won't necessarily fix it, or even make it work like it should if it does, but it will try its best. Good luck.
