    Suicide Attempts
I was asked by a friend, and I didn't know the answer, so I thought I would come to here.

If someone under the age of 18 attempts suicide, and its caused them to go to the hospital because of their attempt, once they r treated there at the hospital and relased do they have to be admitted into a mental-health facility?

It is not a requirement. They will usually be admitted for a thorough assessment but much is dependent on the recommendations of the attending psychiatrist based on his/her assessment. Patients can be admitted against their will if it is believed they pose an eminent danger to themselves or others.

I wasn't,of course that was back in the early 80's, but what DrBill100 says makes the most sense,if they are still a threat to themselves or others, yes, they COULD be admitted, not necessarily ARE going to be admitted.

The patients I "sit" for are treated by the ER physician and then the consult a mental health professional who comes in to do an interview. After the interview it is discussed how the pt will be treated. Whether they are admitted to the medical unit, the psychiatric unit or released home is determined by a consultation between 2 physicians and the mental health professional after the interview and physical exam are completed.

Depends, if the police were involved, they may put a mental health hold or watch on the person.

Normally a family member will request it.

    How can you tell it?
The previous post was from a friend, and she was wanting to know for the record :)

But I have myself had a history of being depressed/suicidal. These last couple of days I have been feeling not the occasional "blues" but really down, I have been feeling some suicidal, wanting to cut extremely bad, I don't know how to exactly tell it either, I know my parents won't do anything, I don't need therapy. I just need some help! Im tired of feeling suicidal, and where its gotten to the point of me wanting to do it! Please help!

Just moved into a new (to us) home with a goodman furnace model gms80904bna and the furnace will never ignite on the first attempt. In the beginning, it would use up all 3 attempts and shut down. Power clear, and it would finally fire up on the 5th (total) try. This is what I see... Once the...

It's been a while since I've tried to brake up with my girlfriend. I can't never actually achieve it because she sort of threatens me that she will kill herself because she can't live without me. So this past time I tried braking up thinking she really wouldn't do anything, she did. She cut her...

Historical Teen Girls Movie- Suicide or Suicide Attempt? [ 1 Answers ]

I remember watching a movie as a teen- about 10-15 years ago on Showtime or HBO. I think it took place around WWII, with a teenage girl that befriends a new girl at their school, which I think was an all-girls school. The girls meet with other girls (friends) from the school in the woods behind the...
