    I have a magnavox 37MF232D/37. How do I replace the capacitor?
    I have a magnavox 37MF232D/37. I need to do where is the capacitor is located and how do I replace it? So far I have taken the televison apart, but now I am unsure which one is the capacitor that needs to be replaced. Thank you in advance.

    Capacitors work like small batteries, and also look like them. The two basic looks include:

    Cylindrical


    And the other kind:



    Chances are it will be the first type that is blown. When they are blown, they may have corrosion in the form of bubbling paint and white or gray powder like substance attached. Also, sometimes they don't leak and they just become bloated in the middle. Often they are overheated during use.

    If you find the problem capacitor you have to unsolder it, and replace it with one of equal or greater voltage rating with the same Farad ratings. If you take it to radio shack or look on eBay, you can probably get one for no more than a few bucks.










    Those are just some examples of blown capacitors. Notice on the last photo that some of the caps are pushed up on the nonburnt ones. That's a bad sign also.
