Kenmore Elite Dryer Making Whining Noise
    I have a Kenmore Elite Dryer - 110.74982301
As soon as I start up the dryer there is a high pitched whining noise. The noises continues as the dryer runs and stops when the dryer is turned off.
    The dryer heats fine

Sears wants $175 to come fix it but I am hoping a can do it myself!

    Any help would be appreciated.

Its either a belt, roller bearings, the tensioner, or the bearings in the motor.

Each is changeable, but to find out which one is the problem you are having, you will need to remove the panels of the dryer and inspect each one.

$175 sounds awfully steep. For $150 more you could replace it with new dryer.

Thanks Andy. Are the items you mentioned, the belt, roller bearings, etc. easy to get to and easy to change out?

    Hello snowman:

I can't see it being to hard, I would want to have a general mechanical ability before I took on the job. My job is in commercial food equipment. Most of the residential appliances knowledge I have is limited to what I have in my own house.

My best advise would be to remove the panels, find out which is making the noise, then make a mental analiasis on what would be involved to change. If you feel comfortable with it, then give it a shot. Personally, I would do it, but I can't see a dryer being any more tough than some of the stuff that I run into day to day in restaurants, changing elements on a bank fryer during a Friday lunch rush.

Wish I could be of more help. Ask me how to pull the pump on a conveyor dishwasher and I won't look like such an idiot. :) (haha)

My kenmore dryer starts the drying cycle then after about 2 - 5 minutes shuts off. It will restart after about 30 minutes. I have checked the thermal cut offs hi limit thermostats, etc. Any suggestions?

Dryer Making Strange Noise [ 2 Answers ]

 My GE Electric Dryer is making a strang "ching-ching" noise with each rotation. But there is nothing in the clothes that would explain this noise. (It is doing this with every load). It is drying the clothes fine, but the noise is very loud and annoying. What is wrong?

Kenmore Elite Dryer [ 3 Answers ]

From time to time, I am able to select my drying selections, load size and all the settings but when I push START it only "clicks" and will not start. Then the next day, it is like it "resets" itself and works fine. There seems to be no reason when or why this occurs. Is there any reason why...
