How do you transfer states while on probation?
I would say that my case is a little weird for me... I'm a first time offender, and it's on truancy because I was really sick and could get all the doctor's notes I needed. Anyway, I'm trying to move out of Texas to Illinois where a friend of mine lives. I've gone to court just recently on March 22, 2010, and they said I was on probation but they never actually gave me a probation officer. They said to come back on May 6, but I've been planning on moving out of state since... I'd say December. So, what do I do? They said I'm on probation but didn't give me a probation officer, so could I just leave right now and transfer my case to where I'm going to be living? I already have a place of residence in the state, and if the judge wants me to I'll enroll in a school there even work part time. I really need some answers on this, so help is really really appreciated... If it helps, I'm not eighteen yet, but I've only got a few weeks until I am.

You should be able to go into the probation office ask to speak to someone tell them you haven't been assigned a p.o. and then explain the deal.

First is this probation though adult or Juv court ? ( you said you were not 18 yet)

Next is it going to be though a private agency or the state probation department, or even a city probation department.

All of that matters, did they give you any fines to pay, or require any classes.

I would "guess" that when you go back on May 6 you will meet with someone from probation to set you up

Juv, it was set up by one of the principles at my school I believe.

I guess I should have phrased my question differently... I need to know whether I can leave before that court date and get my case transferred as a whole? Or do I need to wait until court to do any transfers of the sort? I know the judge is trying to keep me in school because he told me he won't let me get my GED, could I haggle with him by making sure I enroll in the high school where I'm moving? I'm sorry if it seems like I'm being repetitive, but I honestly get nothing from reading that passage because I am not being tried as an adult nor am I under probation officially. No officer, no nothing. Could you try to explain it a little more than that? I'm really doing my best to find answers here. Thank you so much for the answers though.

No, you can not leave till you report and officially transfer, you can not move then try to transfer, That would be a violation of your probation, a failure to appear if you did not go back and you would merely be doing your probation time in prison

Ah... All right then, thanks for explaining that then. Guess that answers my question.

Does my son have to go back to the county in Florida that he was arrested in to see probation officer before he can transfer to the State of Tennessee? The Judge already sign a release in Florida the day he was sentenced to prison. He is currently in prison in Florida, but his time will soon be up...
