I love my best friend to death.We've been friends for 4 years, best friends for 3.We got really close super quick and have remained close over the years.When we were in 7th grade, he began dating my friend,*Anna, who was in 8th grade.She cheated on him, so he broke up with her.They decided to stay friends, but with "benefits." I didn't like this at all because I knew it was wrong.Well,soon we were in 9th grade and Anna was in 10th grade.Well,my best friend had met this girl and they really hit it off.Soon they started going out.Well,during my best friend's time as friends with "benefits" with Anna,they had been intimate and she went around saying she was pregnant with my best friend's baby.This made me furious because during our friendship,she had been pregnant 3 times... Needless to say,I didn't really believe her.Well,my best friend's girlfriend got tired of Anna and eventually,my best friend and her broke up.After this,my best friend started hating Anna because she had made a very serious threat against him.He wanted me to stop being friends with her,which I couldn't do... Now, I like him,but he's been hurt by his past girlfriends,so he's kind of built a wall around himself.Sort of... He's always honest with me,but if I want answers to questions, I have to ask them... I've had dreams of us dating and so has he,but he says he thinks of me as a little sister and up until now,I thought of him as my big brother... So I'm really confused. Sorry to write so much,but I had to start at the beginning!

Erecting walls to protect himself because he's been hurt is natural, but he seems to come with a lot of emotional baggage that he hasn't worked through yet. He also sounds confused himself - having dreams of you two dating yet still sees you as a little sister?

The caring you feel for him as a friend and what he has gone through may have manifested itself as a form of infatuation. I think you should just continue to remain friends with him.

I don't think you are meant to be together if you see each other as siblings. Maybe you guys are but from what you just said I don't think that you would stay together to long if you went out. Friendship is more important than a dating relationship and if you are comfortable just being friends stay that way. If you want to try to see what will happen if you go out then go ahead just don't get hurt. Make sure that you stay friends though
