My W2 box 1 amt does not match box 16
The amt in box 1 is far less than the amt in box 16. I lived/worked in CA most of the year but in Oct my work location moved to IN. In Dec, my residence also moved to IN. My tax man wants to know why the amts in box 1 and box 16 don't match and the difference is so great between the two. Box 16 lists an amt for CA as well as an amt for IN. Any help is appreciated.

Basically the state wages are for each state that you worked in and a multi state return should be filed. The federal wages would be the same. Break out the two states with the respective incomes and file the appropriate non-resident/part year returns. I would seek a second opinion from another tax pro if he/she is not sure of the answer.
