    Painting basement joists?
    Is this a good idea before sheet rocking the ceiling? Will it help to keep bug nests and moisture out? I'm wondering if this step is good preventative maintenance when finishing a basement.

    Yes, this would be a good preventive measure to take. Use a good quality product for this and you'll have less problems down the road.

    No. It's a waste of paint! You can if you want but it won't make a difference either way!
