Filing taxes in US after leaving
    Hi,

I moved from the US to Canada in August 2009. I was a student for five years in the US, but did get a combination of an assistantship and fellowship. I have a job in Canada and am on a work permit. I was a non-resident Alien in the US and temporary resident with a temp work permit in Canada.

Do I have to declare my US income in Canada and my Canadian income in the US or can I file independent tax forms for each country without mentioning the other?

In case I have to declare the foreign incomes in both tax forms, what US-Canadian treaty will I have to quote in order to get a tax exempt on my foreign income?

Also, the 1040-NR form asks what my visa status is till the year end 2009. I had an F1 visa in the US and now I have a B2 visitor visa. What should I put?

Please help me. Thank you very much.
