My fan was working fine last winter. When I returned from the South, the remote would not cause the fan or light to operate. I replaced the batteries in the remote to no avail. My guess would be either the receiver or the transmitter has failed. But I don't know how to check it. Any ideas?

I can't seem to find a way to remove the cap from this celing fan so that I can change the light bulb. The fan has three tiers, the middle is where the blades are. The fan is a Hampton Bay Windward in white with the frosted glass. Can anyone help?:confused:
