Contractor screwed up my rubber roof
I bought my home over a year ago and have had trouble with a roof leak. The builder who sold it to me has sent his workers over several times to patch it. I recently discovered the roofing tar he's been using is toxic to epdm and eating the membrane. Anyone know where I can get this in writing for my lawyer letter? It's common knowledge to all of the roofing suppliers I've called but none of them can find anything written.

Probably not toxic, but detrimental to it, it breaks it down?

You can have the area affected removed and a patch installed by any reputable EPDM contractor, they will know the proper usage of sealers and will most likely add their input as to why this was a problem to begin with.

Let the new contractor know,up front, that this might end up being a litigation situation,, but that you are going to pay for their work none the less, you simply want the roof fixed correctly.

If they are willing to do the repair and take pictures, give a detailed list to the problem and reason for the initial failure, then fix the problem, you have grounds for a possible suit against the inept home builder and/or subs.
