    Rental apartment and tax
    I spent 2009 building out an unfinished space (bottome floor) of my house to be used as a rental apartment. I started listing it as rental January 2010 - are my cost of construction deductable?

    The cost of capital improvements on the rental property are not directly deductible, but rather are added to your cost basis for depreciation purposes.
