I've corrected the setting in the menu and done a reset of the TV, but the zoom setting is lost whenever I switch. It always goes back to the "full" setting, which is a smaller picture with a black band on all 4 sides. I went through troubleshooting with Sony and they finally said to have it serviced. It would cost over $100 to have someone come to look at it. I'm hoping there might be a reprogramming procedure that will take care of this. I had a sound problem last year and Sony gave me the same advice, but I was able to find someone who helped reprogram it. He's not available for this one. Any thoughts?

Is there a setting in the menu for an option about automatic 4:3 override? Some TVs have this setting and sometimes it can cause similar problems.

Also, are you using the internal tuner on the TV? Does this happen on all inputs (where it will change when the picture changes)?

It is possible if you are using a cable box or satellite box, that the resolution is changing when you change channels. Most TVs will reset or change the aspect ratio setting according to the resolution. Most newer ones will remember what the setting was on for said resolution.

Thank you for your thoughts on this. There's no menu option for the override you mentioned. I don't know anything about an internal tuner. I only have a rooftop antenna, no cable or satellite box. All very basic.

I bought the manual last year, but I don't understand most of it. It would help if I could determine if this is a hardware issue (microprocessor?) or not. Any ideas of where to look?
