Hi, I am 41 yrs old and haven't had a period since jan 30th of this year. I took a pregnancy test and it came back negative. I have symptoms of pregnancy and was on the pill but stopped it due to water retention. I was also using depo-provera shot for a year and my last one was aug of 2009. Now my husband and I are using condoms. Should I retest and if the results are negative again what could be the problem?

I am not an OB/GYN, we don't have any of those here ;). However, I am a registered nurse specializing in women's health.

You say you are 40. It is possible you are beginning to experience perimenopause or even menopause.

I am 15 and want to be an ob/gyn but I can definitely tell you, take the test again and if it comes back as negative you are most likely expiriencing ealry menopause symptoms.
