    Ediquette for family christmas gifts
    If a Christmas gift is given to a family and that person thanks you at that time is it necessary to send a thank you card or is it even proper ediquette to do so??
    My sister-in-law is driving me crazy.

    Dear Abby (actually, her daughter) answered this very question recently in her column. If the gift giver has been thanked in person, a follow-up written thank you is not absolutely required. BUT, it is NEVER wrong to send such a thank you note and shows thoughtfulness and class. Or, if nothing else, if the thanks was only verbal, the recipient can mention the gift again next time the two see each other -- "I'm so enjoying that bath gel you gave me for my birthday. People compliment me all the time on how nice I smell."
