    J1-scholar from India
    Hi,
I am a J1-scholar from India. I have signed for the exemption for tax for the Indian scholars for the first two years. However, it took time for processing and the tax was withheld from my first month salary.
I got W-2 form which shows the first month salary and the tax with held.
How can I get back that amount?

    Should I file form 8833?

You must file non-resident tax return Form 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ and Form 8843. Your U.S. Tax Return: U.S. Tax Filing Requirements for Non-Residents
