Hey txgreasemonkey,

I hope all is well. I am sorry just now getting back to the forum. I changed the wires and bought Motorcraft wires and did all that you told me to do. I drove it about 10 miles and it missed a little going up a hill. The gas pedal is solid like I installed a spring underneath it. It is no longer squishy. It runs really really good just a little miss that day. The next day I started the car up and it soundled like it was going to go dead it was missing really bad at idle and then I shut the car off and started it again and it ran great that day just a little miss here and there nothing like before. I let it sit Monday and Tuesday I drove it and it didn't miss at all. Could I have put too much dielectric grease on the prongs of the sparkplugs. I am wondering also if it misses anymore could there be a hairline crack so small that we couldn't see it when we checked.

My brother Jeff R is the one that helps me also and you have helped him greatly. He recommended you to me. He doesn't trust many mechanics and has done all his work for the last 35 years or so. He trust you greatly.

I don't know if that little miss is gone for sure it has done this before ran good a day or two then started back up.

I found something and I don't know if it could be it. There is a pipe that looks like a snakeskin covering over it and it goes up to the EGR valve. It has two vacuum lines on it well before you get to the Valve. They go up to a device that has electrical wires coming out of it. Those vacuum lines especially one is real squishy. It doesn't have much clearance between the sides of the hose and I am wondering if it is collapsing.

My car runs better now than it did new except that little miss the first two days. I will know more today. I was shocked how much stronger the power is in it. It runs a million times better. I just hope that miss is gone.

Using a code reader, clear all old codes. This will reset the PCM and it often makes a big difference. This may help eliminate any remaining miss.

With regards to the EGR, soft hoses should definitely be replaced. EGRs are notorious for causing poor performance. Also, be sure you replaced the PCV Valve at 100,000 miles, along with the Emission Separator. The setup should be similar to what's described in the link below:

When you apply dielectric grease, apply a light coating to just the terminal nut and porcelain insulator/corrugations, not to the ground electrode or center electrode.

I recommend you only use full-synthetic engine oil in your Mustang. Change it, along with a premium oil filter (e.g. Mobil 1 or Purolator Pure One), every 6,000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first. If you have an automatic transmission, be sure to drop and clean the pan, change the filter, and refill with Mobil 1 Multi-Vehicle Synthetic ATF every 30,000 miles. Starting Tip: Turn the ignition switch to ON--this allows the fuel pump to fully pressurize the fuel rail. Wait until you can hear the fuel pump, located in the gas tank, stop running. Then, turn the ignition switch the rest of the way to START--the engine should fire right up.

Thank you very much for your help. It hasn't missed for two days. I will take care of all the things you mentioned. When we changed the plugs a while back I never did go get the code cleared the light went out. You are a blessing and a wealth of information. How you keep up with all the questions I don't know.

Even though the light went out, codes (hard and soft) can still reside in memory. It's best to clear them out, since they can interfere with performance. Also, I would remove the negative battery cable over night, to force the PCM to relearn all new shift points, if you have an ATX. Record any radio codes first.

I will get the codes cleared. That must have been the problem with the little miss when we changed the plugs a while back. I should have had the code cleared. All the problems is over my stupidity not knowing about new technology in cars. Thank you again.

After 3 days and no misses. I took it to Advance to have them clear the codes and he said no old codes. I wondered if he checked for a new code. It may be a 3.8 engine but it sure runs a lot stronger than one.

I took the negative cable off all night and it shifts great. Thank you for letting me know about the old codes that get stored up in the computer can cause the car to miss. I wish there was a place on the website to give a donation for all the answers to questions. It took a lot of hard work in the heat and cold to have the understanding that you do.
