    Water pressure tester gauge northern tools
    Good morning,

    Two days ago the water pipes my house started banging big time!
    I thought it was water hammer.
    After Google(ing) / reading 20+ posts I did not have water hammer.
    Because I realized that water hammer occurs after a fixture is turned off.
    I have oscillation in my pipes because my problem occurs while the water is running.

    I purchased a water pressure tester;
    - It reads 60 PSI with everything off
    - It reads 20 PSI with the 2nd floor shower, sink, and washing machine running

    About 15/20 minutes (two kids showering) the noise slightly returned.
    I looked at the gauge and it was oscillating between 20 and 60 PSI.

    What could be causing this?

    Does the banging happen no matter what fixture is running or just that shower the kids are using?

    How old is your house and what materiall are your pipes?Copper, plastic or galvanized?
    Are you on a pump or city water.
    Is there a PRV( pressure reducing valve) or water softener involved?
