    Summons of debt
    Hello,

We are business in California who has a debt to a company in New Jersey. They have a hired a lawyer to collect their debt from us. The lawyer is using a pay or go to court in New Jersey tactic. Can they summons me to a court in New Jersey if we are in California? The debt is about $7000 and I offered a settlement of $5000, will this amount warrant a law suit? I know they don't have a contract with us over the product or payment agreement. Would I need to representment myself in NJ and would I be responsible for their attorney fees?

    Thank you,

    Bob

They may sue you for one dollar, and most likely yes, since they will also sue for attorney and court fees, so your 7000 will end up being a lot more after all that is added.

If you offered 5000 and it is only 7000, if you really owe it, why not just pay it
