Light socket shorted out now no lights in part of house.
A light socket was shorted out whil trying to remove light base. Now part of the house has no lights. No fuse was blown during this incident in the panel box which has fuses not breakers. House built in 1916.

Call an electrician, not being sarcastic, but with a system that age I would not suggest a DIY deal, are you sure about the fuse? Have you checked it for continuity?

    Loose wires, oxidized wires.

Fuses can look good. They can even test good using ohms and be bad. With a load connected to the circuit, measure the voltage across the fuse. It should be zero. I've seen intermittant fuses, not once, but twice.

If it's the other leg of the 240, then it could be anywhere including where overhead feed connects.

If a light shorted the fuse likely blew whether it looks good or not. Replace the fuse with a known good fuse.

How would I use a voltage tester? Would I go from outlet to outlet measuring the voltage? I've gone around the house and tightened outlets and opened the panel and tightened the screws that were not tight. I haven't seen the lights dim since I tightened everything. Thanks a lot! Gbrown
