    Notebook Internet Connection
    How can I or is it possible to connect an RJ11 phone line to an RJ45 ethernet cardbus (just purchased new and opened)? Is there an adapter or are they not compatible. I currently have dial up for my desktop but am switching to DSL. :confused:

    They are not compatible. The dial-up adapter (rj-11) processes analog signals while the ethernet adapter (rj-45) processes a digital signal.

    Every laptop I've seen comes with a modem built in. So you should have a RJ11 jack on the PC as well. It may not have an Ethernet jack (hence the Cardbus). But there are some multi adapters that will let you plug in the smaller RJ11 into a an RJ45. But the Cardbus would have be both a regular dialup modem and an ethernet adapter.

    When you get your DSL connection, it will include a high speed modem which has an RJ45 port on it... your RJ45 cable then goes from the modem to your Ethernet card.

    OK... so 1st answer, as Karma said... they are not compatible.

    But moving on, it sounds to me like you are wondering where to plug in the RJ11 Phone Jack once you do get your DSL connection and want to commence using it. If that is in fact what you are wondering, than the answer to your question is that you will not in fact connect the RJ11 into your PC, but rather into your DSL Modem. Then from the DSL modem to your PC, you will have an RJ-45 cable which is compatible with your PC Card.
