I need to open the flap on the drain in my shower tub, the linkage broken with the drain on the close position.

I have the same problem, and I pulled the whole lever/linkage/bucket aparatus out already, thinking this would open the drain if it was indeed stuck in th eclosed position, but it did not.

I saw a plumber put a hook made of a hanger, hook something and it opened, this what I am trying to do, but don't know what to hook.

Andrew is bang on with his answer. The lift bucket has a cross bar running across the top that the lift wire hooks on to. Take a coat hanger and make a very narrow hook on the end and fish the bucket out. Push the hook down inside the bucket and then turn it so it will hook the cross bar. Now just pull it out of there. Well/ I pulled the bucket out too at the end of the linkage.

Now I think it is just plugged up, it does drain but VERY slowly, takes all night to drain a liter of liquid.

I have been told NOT to put harsh de-cloggers down the drain.
I am buying a snake today, is there an "organic" drain-opener that you recommend?

Well guys it worked great for me. As for your clog, I would try a plunger first but be sure to put the cap back on the overflow before you do plunder or you will just be sucking air in a circle, also remember it is best to use the plunger with some water covering the plunger. Let me know how it goes.

I've used some clog remover so it wasn't a mechanical plug, it is helping, but I am getting a snake tomorrow, hope this works. Thanks! And congrats solving your problem too! RJ
