I would like to know if a parent of an adult student, who works part time and claimed herself when filling her taxes, which she had to do because of the amount of her income, can demand to see that adult child's W2 form. This adult student is from a divorced family and lives with her mother. The parent making the demand has not seen this adult child for over a year and refuses to have contact with her, although he does see his other 2 younger children for visitation. Does this adult child, she's 18, have to give in to his demand. He is doing this because he doesn't believe that she made enough to file her own taxes.

She has every right to keep your privacy. He can't make demands on her. He probably only wants to know how much she makes; then why doesn't he just ask her. What agenda has he got to know what she makes ? You haven't told the whole story.

Thanks for the reply. It is just a harassing father who continually tries to get at the exwife by way of the children. Now that this child is an adult of 18 and goes to college, which he pays nothing towards, he thinks he still has all rights over any information of the kids, adult or not. He uses demands and treats all the time to get what he wants and usually uses the kids to get this information or to further harrass the household in some way or the other. It's really sad that this kind of thing happens all the time and the mother has no legal options in a lot of the courts, as they just don't want to hear it. Since this adult daughter has had no contact with her father for over a year, per the father's request, she just wants to make sure that she's legally not obligated to give that information to him.

Just simply refuse to let him see the W-2. The man is just trying to stir up trouble any way he can. If the adult child receives no child support or any other financial aid from this man, then tell him to get a Court Order to see the W-2 as it is not his concern any longer.

Now if the person is paying child support and part of it from the court is her being emicipated or a college student, they may actually have a reason to need that info.

So to be honest without knowing why they want it, I will not say they do not have a right to it.

For example, if she is making her own living, he may use this to prove to the court that he does not have to pay any longer
