GE One Of The Best Water Heaters?
We are in need of replacing our 20+-year old water heater which is 40 gal, 4500 Watt, Tall. Could any of you tell us if GE vs. Whirlpool is better? Also, what would be the recommended way to go for electric water heaters, if the above choices are not good?

    Thanks for your time!

    God Bless,

    Ginger :)

    Hey Ginger,
Why are you replacing your water heater? If it isn't leaking and the boiler's OK it can be rebuilt much cheaper. My WH's 55 years old and still gives me good service. In answer to your question any name brand water heater with a good warranty should be OK.
    Good luck, Tom

We have had nothing but problems with GE water heaters carried by Home Depot. Literally, every other unit has failed. We stopped installing them bcs Home Depot won't take them back w/o GE's approval. That approval is based on GE technician visiting customer's house in an attempt to repair it. That usually takes day or two - and nobody wants to take cold showers. That's why we stopped installing them.

Thanks for the backup Milo. I wasn't aware of the problem. I replaced a GE from Home Depot a few years back with no problems. Thanks again, Tom

New Water Heater In Place - Old Water Heater...
Some more information: We did place towels along the floor for the removal but because the water heater was so old the nozzle to remove the water was rusted and the heater was removed with the water in it and the towels placed were used to clean up the spilled rusted water and not for the bottom of the tank. The scratches are approximately 1/8 - 1/4 inches and they have rust in them as well. Scratches can be felt using the hand but I think with some type of system (if any can be found) we can fix it up!

The tiles are 12 X 12 and are solid light beige; they have a slight texture and are dull.
