Is a ground rod needed for a subpanel?
I have installed a 60 amp subpanel in my house flush mounted on a wall separating 2 rooms. I ran 6/3 romex for the 2 hots, 1 neutral and ground from the main panel that is outside.
My question is do I need a separate groundind rod? If so what is the furthest I can put the rod? Also can the bare gec be ran through the attic crawlspace to the subpanel. The nearest exterior wall is about 8ft would this OK. I have the nec 4th edition book and I can not an answer. I have read some of the other post and there contradicting each other. Need some guidance. |

A subpanel in a building that already contains the main service, which is grounded, does not need another grounding electrode.
Just be sure to use the insulated neutral bar in the new panel for all white neutrals, do not install the green bonding screw, and use a separate equipment grounding bar, bolted to the panel box using machine screws for all green or bare grounds. |

Thank you very much for the answer tkrussell, now I can call for the rough inspection. Ive been holding off cause I couldn't get a straight answer.
Yeah I used the neutral bar that came with the panel it's sitting on rubber stoppers or it looks like that is what I mean. I do have the ground on a separate bar as well. |
