    Pus cells in the urine
    My mother who just recovered five weeks back from septicemia and acute renal failure is a diabetic , has been diagnosed with pus cells in the urine.40-60.now Is this life threatening? She is 77 yrs old

    It really depends, chemicals such as 4-Aminobiphenyl (Used in dye making) can be a poison that causes puss in the urine, it is also a carcinogen. It is a common affect from Gonorrhea. Kidney or bladder infections can cause puss in the urine, which seems more likely due to the diabetic background. Reiter's syndrome is a rare form of arthritis that can cause puss in the urine. A renal abscess can cause puss in the urine, but is unlikely due to your mother's age. Certain urinary tract infections are also known to cause puss in the urine.

    Infections are generally easily treated with antibiotics, but your mothers general health could dictate how sever it really is. Also, sometimes infections are caused by other problems, so it may just be the tip of the iceberg, I'd wait until the doctors identify where exactly it came from before you get way ahead of yourself.
