I've had sever pain in my feet for over a year now. I've been seeing a Foot Doctor for 6 months now. He diagnosed the problem as plantar fasciitis. He has tried cortizone injections, a boot, they fitted me for custom orthotics, and lastly I had a cast on the right leg for almost 6 weeks to immobilize the foot and keep weight off it and let it heal. I just got the cast off Monday, by Tuesday the pain came right back and even worse. Went back to the doctor and he's sending me for an MRI. He now says it may be an entrapped nerve. The symptoms of plantar fasciits and an entrapped nerve are very similar he says. Has anyone ever had these problems and is it ever going to get better? I just want to walk again... pain free.

That parficular nerve entrapment is the result of overpronation, meaning that your foot rolls in too much. I don't know if his diangnoses is appropriate or not, not being able to see your particular problem first hand, but I do feel that an MRI is really extreme, in fact, most of what he has accomplished is really extreme and I imagine you have spent a lot of money in this edeavour to correct the pain.

On second thought, could be the MRI is a good idea as that will tell him just where, in some other part of your leg, hip, etc. this is occurring from. Sometimes these foot problems are caused by a slight drop in the hip due to poor footwear, etc. over a long period.

I have my footcare certificate so the aforementiioned comes from a knowledge of how all these issues work together. What I mean is, hip, leg, eventually foot and proper foot wear.

I must say though there are orthotics and there are proper orthotics. Proper orthotics aren't just sticking a pad in the shoe to compensate how you walk, but there are different materials that will do a good job. Could be you should have a second opinion on what has been done for you so far.

What other medical issues do you have at the present time? Just asking to determine your predicment a little better.

I've had this extreme heel pain in both feet for a little over a year. He said it was from wearing those flip flops all the time and not the proper footwear. The left foot is less apinful then the right. The heel and especially inside of the foot are so tender to the touch and I have a cramp in my calf that won't go away... also since Monday when he removed the cast I've had a pain in my right hip really bed, like a pinching pain. I do get , the best way I can describe this is, an electrical shock in my foot and leg from time to time. Like someone pinches me really hard or shocks me with something. The pain starts from the second my feet hit the floor in the A.M. and it gets worse as I walk during the day. Other then that, I'm a healthy 42 year old. Oh, I had elbow surgery last year. I tore a ligament.

I guess I can agree with his diagnosis then. If you did not wear proper shoes and only flip flops, then you can't expect bad feet, and subsequent pain. Just follow his advice until you are comfortable.
