    Claiming mortgage interest on taxes
I own a house with my boyfriend. Is it legal for one of us to claim all the mortgage interest on taxes if the other claims none?

If you both have the LEGAL requirement to pay the loan, then the interest must be split 50-50.

If only ONE of you is on the mortgage, then THAT person claims the mortgage interest deduction.
